How are medical courses structured

Medicine

The medicine programme is 6 years long and is taught entirely in English. It consists of 2 academic cycles, each lasting 3 years.

The first cycle (years 1-3) focuses on preclinical studies and covers the basics, in addition to theory, independent research, and laboratory work.

The second cycle (years 4-6) also emphasises clinical education, including surgical and preventive medicine courses as well as hospital experience.

In each summer of years 1 through 5, students must complete a work placement in hospitals, medical centres, or clinics affiliated with the university.

Students are required to complete a minimum of four weeks of work placement per year (divided into 20 8-hour days), with the ultimate goal of accumulating 800 hours of practical experience over the course of 5 years.

In their final year, students are required to complete a dissertation based on independent research on a topic assigned by their instructor. The final examination of the final year consists of three components: a written exam, an oral presentation exam, and a clinical case study exam.

Students will be awarded a Master's degree and the title of “Physician” upon successful completion of the programme (MD). Some students usually remain in Romania to pursue their chosen area of medical specialisation, while others either return to their home country or seek to obtain a practice visa elsewhere.

01

Years 1-3: Preclinical education
The first phase of the programme provides students with basic biological and medical knowledge, which serves as the foundation for their clinical training.

02

Years 3 to 5 - Clinical training
The objective of the clinical training is to impart knowledge and expertise in diagnostics and treatment. Students progress through several modules.

03

In the University hospital departments, pre-graduation training is accomplished through rotations. Students utilize their knowledge and abilities at the bedside of patients and in outpatient clinics.

04

State examination
Graduates who pass the exam are awarded the "Master" degree and the title "Physician."
